As for being nervous sy2003, best thing I can suggest there is... relax.
keep in mind that the other people are just as nervous, and that your trainer is not there to fail you. Rather they will give you constructive feedback about what you will have done well, what you have done really well, and what you need to improve on. On day three of module training, you will be assesed on whether you improved on your weaknesses, and whether you kept doing what you do well.

There are no perfect instructors out there, and sometimes the tracks you are given are not the easiest. Work with what you have or know.

In regards the choreography, there will be an expectation to learn the choreo overnight, and there is no easy way to learn the choreo - each person is different.
Have a think about how you learn at the moment ? Do you learn by doing/ listening/ reading etc ?
I agree with Danny751, listen to your music over and over and over. Watch the DVD and look at how they present, and what they say. But whatever, don't copy exactly what they say... the trainer will notice...

Most of all, have FUN !!!

Sorry took me a few months to get back to you all on my training!!

It was awesome!! I was taking a few Jam classes while I was living in Hobart and very excited to get back into it now I am in Melbourne.

Hope you went well DanceFreak, it is very tiring!! I remember my abs being so sore ffrom continuous body rolls!!

Good luck to anyone else doing Jam training!!
If you want to move something, you got to move it with your mind!!!!

If you are doing the BODYJAM training...DO NOT PLAN THINGS FOR THAT EVENING.
You will be BUSY learning your tracks.
If you are not staying at home...make sure u have a portable CD player!
Also a DVD player, to learn your tracks that evening.

Really good points FitGuy, we had a woman in our module group who didn't have access to a DVD player, so had to learn from music and notes only.
She did well enough, but could have been so much more

Hi All
I am so nervous about my training in March, because I am a shy person. What I feel nervous is the presentation. Is it we have to memorize the chreo overnight ? Is that difficult?
What if forget? Wow, so worry.
Plese give me some advice. Thanks

I'm in the same boat as you. If all goes well for me this Saturday, I will most likely be on my way to my first training session  I'm excited, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up until I see how auditions on Saturday go. I've never done anything like this before, so I'm kind of stressed... When my instrucotr announced that they were looking for Jam instructors, I told her it was something I wanted to definitely do, but I was planning on waiting until I was more in shape. She suggested I go for it anyway because the opportunity doesn't come along that often & I could start off slow, maybe only teaching a couple songs a class, etc etc... I just hope I'm not getting in over my head!

Good luck Beth I am sure you will do fine :)

I am considering doing the training later in the year but am also reasonably shy however once I get back into netball coaching and am again comfortable presenting in front of people I am hoping that will be less of a problem. I adore netball coaching and I love jam and the thought of teaching jam really excites me :)

So here is what I know so far about Saturday (which is my "audition"). Basically, we are going to all be filling out the Gold's Gym & Les Mills paperwork, and going over the costs and whatnot for the training (which I think will be in Poughkeepsie, NY), then they are going to videotape us doing the routine (BJ 40). Then, after reviewing it, they will be contacting people to let them know if they think they are ready for it or not. So, I feel a little better knowing it will all be done as a group. I really want to shine, though.

I know they are going to be asking some questions, like "Why do you want to be a Body Jam Instructor?" And I really want to have a great answer. Does anyone have any ideas? Truthfully, I can't really pin point it. I love love love to dance, I've always wanted to do something dance-related. I'm also trying really hard to get in shape, and this seems like a great way to really jumpstart that. I've really just been serious about working out since September, when I joined the gym, but with time I have become more and more enthusiastic about it.

I'm kind of a shy person, so I really don't want to be stumbling through my answers with "ums' and "uhs", you know? Does anyone have any tips? 8-[

Thats a tough process you have to go through there Beth, but I would just speak from your heart and yourself, there is no point giving answers that you think they want to hear if your don't believe in them yourself

Hope this helps. Don't be nervous you'll be great!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I don't want to say something that is not true. I guess I'm just looking for a more eloquent way to say what I feel. Thank you!! :)

I loved every minute of it!!!! I'm certain you will too!

Enjoy, bask, take notes, and enjoy! (Yes, enjoy twice!) You'll LOVE it!

Thanks!! I'm really looking forward to it, although I have no idea what to expect really. Do you dance for the whole eight hours every day? Or are there different things where you're not dancing, like teaching techniques and all of that.... ?

Definitely not dancing all day every day. No fit person would want to do that - your technique would improve, and then become worse.

You are right, there are teaching cues etc, physical execution, where you learn the moves individually step by step, break each move down.
There are drills on different aspects of teaching as well, as in how to cue effectively and efficiently, rather than reading out a paragraph on how to step touch etc.

But, as CBC said, enjoy !

Yay, I'm excited!

Thanks, I'm glad it's not like 8 hours straight of dancing, haha! Any advice or info that anyone has on the training is much appreciated. :) As excited as I am, I'm still a bit nervous!

Hi Beth,

Have a quick read over the previous posts in this topic, and if anything remains uncertain, let us know. There are some really good bits of advice in here from people who have all done the training.

Hi there,

... and again, another girl who's very excited about going to Jam training!! I've been Jamming for over 2 years now and I've recently been asked to do the training for it. Was a bit worried initially, wondering whether I could do it or not. But I've decided to just dive in. I absolutely love Jam, so nothing holding me back so far :-D And I must say it's great to read all the advice of you guys!
Will hand in my forms this week... YAY!!
