Here's a chance to share inspirational, funny, feeling and emotional cues
A lot of my stepping cues I work in with my scripting. Depending on the song and the track, I work with the lyrics.
But hey, I'll bet you never thought you could have so much fun with a heap of plastic!
I wanna see plenty of air between the sole of your shoes and that step!
I have a riot in my classes. And thankfully, so does everyone else
There's heaps more up my sleeve but I'll let someone else have a turn.

It's all mental babe. By the time I get to put the chorrey to the music, I know each song inside out and back to front. I just take it from there. Still have loads of fun with 'Do You Wanna Funk...

When I see this topic, I was going huh?!! how can we have inspirational cues in Step
I will use a lot of those cues in Balance...but in my opinion...for Step, it's more important to emphasis on the safety techniques (not inspirational at all hehehe), and give lots and lots and lots of encouragement and motivation to them, as they can tire out easily.
The fun part of it comes on the interaction with ppl, and oso making jokes, like say, between tracks. One of the instructor once said "u learn to walk from ur parents, but today, I'll teach you how to walk like an egyption"
And for the jump on the board, and crunch it up....he'll say things like "we'll be superman here", or sometimes, he'll go "imagine you want to do this to ur ex-bf or ex-gf"....

My club uses a lot of inspirational cues to remind people of why they're actually in the step class. When you're doing track 9 or 10 and getting tired, it can be difficult as a member to find that drive to really push and drive the movements. I say things like "c'mon, push it, this is where we make a difference in our bodies" or "this is your final power peak, give it everything you've got, these next 5 minutes are your last chance to change your body, so I want to see you sweating your butt off!" One thing that my trainer taught me that I think is really important is to make sure that your cues and your language mimic that of the tone of the track that you're teaching. So when I teach fighter, I'm not always trying to say words of inspiration, some times all I need to get people fired up is to give a grunt when I throw that punch, and get them to do it as well. Good luck with it, I hope I've helped!

I teach on Friday nights, so inspiration is key! My group is usually there to get in one last good workout before the weekend and I give that to them and hope to put a smile on their faces. As far as I'm concerned, as long as people leave sweatty and smiling, I did a good job. I've only been teaching for about 2 months and I have people that will come up to me and apologize for missing my classes, so I know I'm doing something right. It's so nice to get that kind of positive feedback, because I've had my share of the opposite! Some people don't want to hear inspirational cues, just the steps and how to do them, but I do think that there's time within each track to add your own flair, whether it be saying "if these don't hurt you're not doing them right" referring to the knee repeaters or saying "get silly with it" referring to the oh, so boring walkover on it's my party. If I step out of myself for a minute and really act the way I feel, then my class has a better time.

I teach of a Tuesday and Friday night...the Tuesday night class is easy as everyone wants to be there to work hard. But on Friday it is more a social class, therefore it is harder to teach!
My style of teaching relys on working hard and pushing to the limit; which works well on Tuesdays; but Fridays (for me) are harder to teach. The Party Track is really the defining moment in my class...if the enjoy the party track and get into it...you know that you've done a great class!
But any way...I'm only 16...i have a LONG way to go yet!

i always try to get the reeved up in track 8 for the oncoming track 10. i like to remind them that this is the 2nd to last cadio track and the speed step is really a track to raise ur heart rate back up towards its final peak. i do like to chuck in lots a "workit" cues in the bring it home phase of 9 so theyrea lready amped by the start of 10 and can realy use the whole track for its intended purpose.
trust frank, frank knows.

I can see where that one came from but never used it, when you say turn step most people know what you mean, and if they are new, then you're more cueing them as to where to put their feet usually, the door might confuse them more!

Ditto what everyone else says....especially in the power tracks and towards the end. Just lots of positive affirmations and especially HUMOR to get them through the roughest spots. Lots of opportunities in the latest release IMO...

"CHALLENGE YOURSELF!" is one of my faves for the peaks, I like to call them my team, use there names, make it personal (esp in voodoo child - tell them by name they are doing great so they know I am watching if they decide to slack off!) - "30 seconds to go" inspires to dig deep, "show me your energy" "power through to the end" "kick your botom!" "lift those knees" "straighten your arms!" gets them thinking and moving with a bigger ROM. "Lets have some fun - bodysteppers have fun!" is the best and I love it when it is interactive - new release 63 is great like that

Sorry Schell, and to anyone else but the word THOSE annoys me so much...if any of you ever catch me saying in a class KILL me there and then...
Those is such an impersonal word...it is much nicer to say (and to listen to) instructors saying "Lift YOUR knees" instead of "Lift those knees" whenever i hear it, it reminds me of 80's cheesy American (sorry guys) aerobics....(atlhough i wasn't there to experience it, i've seen videos)
So come on team, lift your knees a little higher...and feel the ultimate kick butt experience....
