One of our instructors usually says before the muay thai track starts
"Smile.... because you won't be smiling afterwards"
he always says this before all the knee lifts in 'Party non Stop' or before 'Hardcore angel' (in my opinion the hardest Muay thai track!)

I sometimes say in the Muay Thai: "Okay, you're not allowed to smile until after this track." Sometimes I make a lighthearted "I said no smiles!"-comment if anybody happens to crack a smile, all in good spirit.
Then after the MT is over, when P3 starts I tell them they can smile again (if they are able to).
Gets them smiling.

Last Sat morning, Combat fill-in, with participants who don't understand my kind of 'crazy'.
Muay Thai track "Ravers Paradise" on final round of knee strikes they were 'flagging' a bit.
"Your opponent is looking for a chink in your armour, DON'T LET IT BE FATIGUE!!"
They went nuts...
Job done
