Let's all share our funny, inspirational, feeling and emotional cues.

I'm going to start it off with something I do in the BC21 cooldown. The "crane claw crane" sequence, I actually say very little at all.

Right at the start, I say (and I pick front rowest diva here), "how does it go Julie?"

and Julie says "craaaaaane claaaaaw craaaaaane" to the moves. Next I involves others, and pick others (names that I can remember generally), and get them to say "crane claw crane".

They seem to like it? It's fun standing up there, and throwing a bit of passion into it, but saying nothing at all ;)

Oh, Mel, I wish our instructors did that kind of stuff, it seems very funny!
The only thing they do is making us scream, they really stand in front of us while we are punching and kicking and wait till we scream. At the beginning it was a bit embarassing  but now it's loads of fun.
They also do this: they stand in front of us and make the opposite moves comparing to my moves. That is I kick and he uses the proper defense technique and same with punches. That way I can see if I'm punching and kicking correctly.
Perfection is reached, not when there is no longer anything to add, but when there is no longer anything to take away.

I'm not sure if this is any inspirartional cue, but when I teach the cool down to BC 21...during the 'crane-claw-clane', I often say "Goose-Cougar-Goose" in reference to the film Top Gun!...Is this terribly tacky?... If so, please let me know! My students don't seem to mind and they get a great laugh from it!

I think it's a great cue. Only problem I guess would be teenagers doing the release who hadn't seen the movie, but you could always recommend they go out and hire it. 8)

Mel, you don't seem to like the two Toms ..
I do admit Tom Jones is a bit old ... 8)
but when he shakes his bum , he is still very entertaining ....

It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone
It’s not unusual to have fun with anyone
But when I see you hanging about with anyone
It’s not unusual to see me cry

We have to do our monday night combat in a big hall rather than the studio as its a popular night for most activities!  We only get a part of the hall though which is curtained off, while the rest is open for people playing badminton or tennis.  Well combat is quite loud and noisy :D .  After about twenty minutes someone poked there head round the curtains and complained of the noise.  At this point our instructor turned off his mic and lowered the volume... however, while he could control the voume of the music, he couldn't control the volume of us shouting    We have NEVER shouted that loud before, or since for that matter..and we shouted for absolutely EVERYTHING, for every jab we started shouting "BANG", every kick became "HAAAH" we couted the upper cuts "ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR" and for the last tracks, we managed to pursuade our instructor to up the volume and join in with our shouting at everything wiv his mic....we REALLY raised the roof that night!  "BANG BANG BANG BANG, HAAA, HAAA, ONE TWO THREE FOUR" over and over

Thats the most memorable, emotional and FUN cue we can remember!

During certain songs - and usually during quite repetative moves - I like to get the class to do the old "Kia - Kia" chant on certain combo's - BUT - I run to the stereo and turn the music down.

I've even had themes for classes where the same principle was applied!  You can imagine what a class full of people making farm yard noises were like - we had sheeps 'baaing', cows 'mooing' - and the class loved it!

Not really a cue but it made my class laugh lots. At the begining I stand in there and say
'Welcome to your Thursday night Fightclub, there are two things you should know about Thursday night fightclub, number one is tell everyone about Thursday night fightclub and number two is you must make loads of noise at Thursday night fightclub'

They loved it and it set the scene for a really fun class

Mine is also not really a cue, rather a follow up for a bob, i ask "why duck?" by this time I have a broomstick (or pump bar) in my hand and sweeping it across the tops of their heads, luckily the stage is set back  tho!!! could always pretend to have one tho, done that b4, not as effective...

Another fave esp. in a power track is to use each punch as "punctuation", eg; you(jab) spilt(cross) WHAT(jab) on(cross) MY(upper) FAVORITE(upper) white(upper) shirt?(upper).....I* AM* GONNA* KILL* YOU* DIDN"T* EVEN* ASK* ME*.... the girls go off....lol

Best one I've heard is one last week from my fav instructor:

"I want to see your butt cheeks when you kick!"

Moony opportunity wasted.

1. set up on the side kick "show your opponent your best "asset".
2. Whenever there are combos with hooks (or in the warm up) - "what a great bunch of hookers".
3. visual imagery - setting up the roundhouse kick during the warmup - you're the dog, there's the fire hydrant...lift that knee.

My fellow BC instructor used #2 during a track he was teaching in front of Dan and Rach - they bout fell out.....
