Hi!
I'm a new instructor (& also new to the forum - thanks for telling me about it Mel!)
When I attended the quarterly update for pump 76, they said that after the squat section in the lunge track, we had the option to hold two side plates or one side plates for the lunge part of the track... but they didn't really explain if there was any difference between these two options...
If it was a choice between holding two 2.5 plates, one in each hand, or one 5kg on one side, would it be correct to tell my class that holding one 5kg plate is a bigger challenge than holding two 2.5kg ones because it forces you to think more about your balance?

I think this option using plate on other side only came about 2 years ago. They explained that with that option you are training also other muscles for stabilization, don't remember the name for those.
Anyway, who else thinks that putting squats in lunge track is just stupid? Was there an option to use bar for lunges?

I would say that 1 plate is a "different" challenge, but not necessarily a harder one. It doesn't make the lunges any harder, but I guess it could give your stabalising muscles something to do.
TP - there was no bar option given for the lunge part of the track. Bar was used for the first part, squats with your regular squat weight on the bar. It seems on the DVD they actually did this.
I think if you did your real squat weight, and then grabbed 2 bigger plates for the lunges, you'd feel a good leg workout...
I like having some track 7s that are all lunges, but the focus on this one is range, and it's something so many people could work on.

I yet have to see the effectiveness of the 1 plate lunges.
I think I'll have to take a 10 kg plate to find it challenging..
5 kg would be easy for me (notice the conditional verb though.. ;-))
