I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the Les Mills programs when I started Body Pump a few years back. With the rage of the iPhone I have assembled an app focused on taking Body Pump with you everywhere you go. I am having an incredibly difficult time in getting the word out as I am just one individual. Looking for advice on how to make it more interesting and/or finding ideas to improve it, so to better promote Body Pump and Les Mills. MyPump v1.4 is released on the app store at http://iTunes.com/apps/MyPump. Please take a look and send me some feedback.

OK, I looked. I like the idea of the weight tracking bit... I know I have participants who say they forget what weight they used last class. Even I forget what I used sometimes.

I know anyone could write it down, but they don't. An app for tracking it appeals to me and my iPhone addiction.

I would have downloaded it if it was free. :D

Thanks you for the feedback. I have been struggling with setting MyPump as a pay app or a free one with ads. At the end of the day I still have to pay Apple a yearly fee to use the App store, so I thought to set the fee at the lowest price. Any features you would love to see added? Anything added over time you get for free after the initial pay download.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I thought you should make it free... I am sure you put lots of work into it. I am just a cheapskate who rarel ever pays for apps.

I can't think of any suggestions. Is there a place in it to record when your regular classes are? An alarm to remind you to go?

From my personal viewpoint, I think it would be tough to pass this through as a paid app. From what I can see it only offers what can already be found for free online. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I only pay for apps if they really offer me something that I feel value out of.

I understand it costs money, but so does this website for example. The apple store fees I believe are around $99 per year, and I pay around $40 per MONTH just for the hosting fees of this site. I've spent many hours of time aswell, particularly on the tracklists, over the last 6 years of hosting this site.

I think, to make a paid app really work, you need to offer something unique. Even then, most successful apps usually need to make a 'lite' version that people can try out before they'll consider buying the full version.

Just some food for thought?

Thanks for the feedback. Not harsh at all. You are correct that it is made up of some resources around the web. Mainly for convenience of having these sources available with you at all times. But there are a couple of bonus features not available from the web. 1) a way to record your last weight used per track while in class. Good for new pumpers and you do not need to be connected to record this in class. 2) Plug in a video cable and you can watch on a TV or a projector. Good for instruction or home viewing.

Are there other good ideas for interesting features to include? Some thoughts;

  • Track progress by keeping a history of each class
  • Share photos from your class and post them straight to your Facebook
  • Record how many locations you teach/participate in classes
  • Class reminder and alarm (thanks to "Special" below)
  • "Lite" version (thanks to "Mel" below)

I like the sound of a progress tracker. Knowing what weight you used for just one class is nice but it's not awesome. A record of how you've progressed over the year would be good. Especially if it came with cute graphs or something. Then your phone could tell you when your weight hasn't changed for 9 months on 1 track.

good idea for tracking progress by keeping a history of each class.
Also I love the idea of sharing photos and post to Facebook or even Twitter.

Why not also sharing your weights ?

Another suggestion: compose your Pump mix and add them to the Iphone playlist...

I will have some more ideas, suggestions to come..

Hi everyone,

Again thanks for the feedback on my iPhone app called MyPump. Because you all sent some really good ideas I have now upgraded MyPump to v1.5 to include a Suggestion Box. Additionally, I heard loud and clear that it might be helpful to have a Lite version that is free. I am now waiting for approval in the app store, but there will be a Free Lite version, but it will include Ads. You will be able to select a link in the Settings tab if you wish to upgrade to a Full version that is without Ads. Additionally, New features will added regularly to theFull version based on your input and those from the Suggestion Box.

Thanks again for your great responses and honest opinions. These will help me improve MyPump to enhance your user experience.

Br/
Ken

Hi again. I was also wondering...Is there a location somewhere in these forums to share information of new releases?

That sounds great Ken! The Lite version with ads is a good idea and allows people to make the choice.

Not sure what you mean? We usually have the sizzlers of the new release and a discussion topic on each one. The track lists are published on totallylesmills.com (our sister site).
Is this the kind of info you were thinking of or something else?

Actually, I was wondering if you had a channel in your forum where others, like myself, who have complementing products and services for Les Mills and Groupfitness.org are allowed to post information about our offerings. I do not wish to spam or break the rules of the this forum if it is not allowed. Additionally, I would love to promote groupfitness.org in MyPump as well regardless of the answer above. I look for your advice though.

One good feature would be that you can take a photo of your bar with weights and the app then automatically calculates how much weight do you have for each track just by analysing the images. No need to type them manually :)

Very interesting. I will have to look into that one. Definitely unique if I could pull it off.

Thanks.

I would so laugh if I was teaching a class and every weight change I heard the "click" of 20 poeople photographing their weights.

I guess that could be a little distracting. Any interesting feature you would want from an instructor point of view?
