You know what really is frustrating. Despite all the court cases and LMAP going 100% PCPA-free, then going half-half PPCA-free, and extra production costs, and gyms switching and instructors dealing with some really bad covers, and the loss of our back catalogues at a lot of gyms....

Nothing actually has changed yet. The PPCA fee is still 97cents like it was 2 years ago.

I'd be pretty annoyed about the DVD pack situation if I worked at both PPCA and non-PPCA clubs. I'm working mostly for FF, and also at a small leagues club which pretty much does whatever FF does, so no PPCA licence for them either. I'm not really keen to pick up classes elsewhere - I have 3 perm BB and a perm BS, and I get plenty of covers giving me flexibility - there aren't any strong independent clubs worth working for in my area. I'm over clubs where the gfm has no clue... I'd love to participate in some PPCA balance and jam classes though!

I spoke too soon... just got offered a permanent class at a new gym which offered me a high enough pay rate to consider purchasing the originals. Hmmmmm.

Tell the gym to buy them for you. Ha! Good luck with that. :) I have actually had it work a couple of times.

Should we get nervous again?

In a more recent move, the PPCA has advised Fitness Australia that it has applied for Special Leave to appeal the decision of the Full Federal Court to the High Court of Australia. Fitness Australia is awaiting advice on this matter from its legal advisors.

My gym is paying the PPCA fees and I can teach PPCA again from 05/03/2011, so I've decided that for BC47 I'll purchase PPCA tracks....

Risky, considering I may wish I had the PPCA free ones shortly, but eh.... thats what friends are for! LOL ;)

I've made the same decision for now too, Shane. Enjoy my originals and then hope I don't get stuck. Although I am not actually teaching so it's not like I'd b in trouble... I just can't take fill ins at PPCA-free gyms unless I piece together a mix from what I have.

I wouldn't be feeling guilty if I paid for the original release and copied the Covers CD. I think LMAP should just give us both. They've already upped the costs. We only need one DVD and Notes, just chuck both CDs in.

Don't tell them that - you'll get a lecture about production costs and blah blah blah... so then to save on production costs, why don't they make the PPCA-free a digital download only (i.e. purchase PPCA and get PPCA-free as a digital download). Reduces production costs to being only licensing and a bit of dev work for a delivery system. But no, they didn't like that suggestion either.

Even if we are provided both PPCA and PPCA-free music as a temporary measure until a final answer is reached regarding PPCA/PPCA-free as it is incredibly difficult for instructors to justify buying two versions of each release. This would be ideal until a final decision is made regarding PPCA/PPCA-free - currently we get locked into one or the other.

LM could make a fortune selling back order via digital download.

I was investigating original vs cover for RPM releases 47, 48, 49 & 50 (out next week for me).
47 - I have original 47 and cover. The original is significantly better
48 & 49 - I have spoken to someone who has both and the difference isn't worth worrying about
50 - no information yet

I don't mind paying a little bit extra for the extra CD, I'm just not paying DOUBLE. They don't realise that the way they've structured it, they're not going to cover the extra production costs.

At this stage I'm doing one original class per week (starting April), not enough to bother with originals along covers. It will be a pleasure to roll out the old 'banned' tracks though

I saw the new APRA rates and they seemed reasonable (I think around $2.50) for a class. Anyone here know what the old rate was? GIven the non-too-subtle dig in Fitness Australia's press release I'd like to think it gives a maximum value as to what increase the PPCA can look forward to.

I am pretty sure that the old (current?) APRA rate was 97 cents same as PPCA.
Fingers crossed this gets sorted and all gyms go back to normal so we can stop paying LMAP to produce a second version of the CD/DVD and packaging, and no more delays.
Not to mention no more second rate covers.

Sounds good to me! I wonder how much of a fight the PPCA will continue to put up, or whether they'll just accept a reasonable rate?

To be honest I'm not that adverse to the covers, but it does piss me off having 2 versions I have to choose from. And what pisses me off even more is the way LMAP are distributing it. If you want both versions, you have to pay for the video AGAIN.

Although this has already been discussed on Facebook, I thought I'd also mention here that it's finally allover:
http://www.ppca.com....users-/fitness/

A reasonable tariff has now been agreed upon.
With a phase in approach, by 2014 the rate will be $2.50 per class

OR

$1.50 per class with <10 participants
$3.50 per class with >10 participants
