hi... am a new gym-goer. i'm attending BC regularly and BJ on-&-off (finding it getting boring~)... 3-4 times a week, have 1 or 2 sessions a week with my personal trainer.

everytime BC classes are right after BP, very tempting to try on... it looks like it's really gonna work on toning! but i struggles with 5kg, 10kg on gym equipments & free weight area with my personal training sets my trainer designed for me... she warned me before i started sign-up with her of course , toning is harder than losing weight!

is it adviceable for me to try on BP? o well, am going for the BP class marked with "intro" this saturday... and am gonna be at the very back, so that no one would laugh at me.. :P

Hi bel,

BP is simply the best barbell group fitness class. You just have to try it out. But not only once, at least two times per week for at least a month. In that period of time you'll get familiar with moves, technique and music. An intro class with technique session is highly recommended for a first timer.

No one will laugh at you. Don't be afraid and place yourself up front so that you'll be able to see the instructor and vice versa - that (s)he'll be able to better coach you. Go light the first couple of classes, then gradually increase the weight. If you'll finish the track without muscle fatigue, then it's time to increase the weight. ;)

Enjoy!
Do what you like.
Like what you do.

Hey Bel,

I've seen people in pump using no weights, just the bar itself!

I think the bar weighs around 2kgs anyway, so if you think you will struggle with a certain muscle group, just try using the bar only (no weights) and follow along with the technique. (Technique is priority #1!!)

My sister in law is very skinny, not very strong and has no muscle tone. She finds that for certain tracks (shoulders) she gets a workout using only the bar, but still uses a 1kg weight on each side of the bar for squats.

As gelp said, don't attend just 1 class. You really need to go, twice a week for 2-3 weeks at least before you will know what to do, what weight you can handle and see what benefit you can feel.

Most importantly... HAVE FUN! :)

It's not recommended to do pump with no weight on the bar. The trainers are strictly against it.
You need some weight on the bar to feel the range of motion and develop technique, all which would be encouraged in the wrong way with no weight.

It would be kinda like doing bodystep without the step.

I tried it , am manage to do with 2.5kg each side :D
when am with my PT i can do my biseps with bar bells of 5kg each side, BUT, every sets, I become "otopus" when i reach 7th count... due to my muscles has started to fatigue...

I'm advice to only attend one BP class , mainly due to i have conditioning/toning sessions twice a week with my personal trainer, Tuesday+Friday
attend cardio Monday+Wednesday (BC)
thursday is classify as "bore day" for gym by me, no BP, BJ classes, and the BC instructor... hehe.. no comments, maybe he jus dun have the aura tat draws me to attend BC.

as i was told i need time for my muscle to recover and rest, i attend BP on Sunday
i'd like to attend more BP after I finish my course with my PT... argh, breaking up is always hard... just like i have so many attempts of breaking ups with my hair stylist for 10years... XD
