How many RPM classes a week is too many before they aren't as beneficial to fitness or weight loss? I do about 5-7 a week because its the only classs I really like and feel like I get a really good workout in. It does get a bit boring sometimes but other than that I think its the best workout ever

That would depend entirely on the individual, in particular their fitness and diet.
To quote the extreme, I'm aware of spin instructor in Sydney who does 18 classes a week. At 15 classes she was on 4,000 calories a day.
If a participant came up to you and asked exactly the same question, what answer would you give them and more importantly why would you give that answer

#-o IMO That's a tough one... variety is the spice of life. To keep your body guessing you should try balancing out your RPM classes with other forms of cardio. It will kill me to do more than 2 or 3 RPMs a week...not because I couldn't handle it physically, but rather I would be so bored just spinning my legs. I gotta jump jump!!
The question is.. What is the question?

Hi Cole
I have cut down from 6 rpms a week to 4 because it was getting boring and I think my body was getting too used to it even though I work my butt off every time! It was still a hard workout every time but it was just starting to get to the point where I wasn't enjoying it as much. Now I do 4 rpms, a pump and a cross trainer class and its sooooo much better mixing it up!
Thanks for your advice :great:

I did a triple to day, but that was due to an unfortunate situation that meant that an instructor had to cancel at little notice.

Hey gang,
I just joined from the LM forum (too much bickering from a certain member) and this was my first topic spotted.
IMO, If you're a participant, listen to your body, but if you're doing other programs (i.e. BP, BA, etc) I feel 3 classes per week is a good number. If RPM is all you do (and I have many in my classes that only do RPM), then as long as you body permits, I see nothing wrong with a class every day with an occasional double. I do suggest taking at least 1 day off (that's just too much laundry to do =; ).
As an instructor, I teach 6 classes a week, often more with subbing, teaming and launches. My max was 18 classes over a 13 day period.
Looking forward to more intelligent discussions and friendly advice over here (even if there's difference of opinions).

Til recently I was teaching 6 regular RPMs a week plus covers plus pump classes... and while I could handle it, I have felt sooooo much better since dropping back to 4 regular RPMs because I have been able to spend those 2 timeslots doing other things like circuit classes, attack classes & running... and occasionally just doing an RPM class as a participant (reminding myself why I love it! oh and stealing cues, lol.) I feel I'm getting better cardio workouts because of more variety & also I've noticed my hamstrings - which were getting reeeeeeally tight - are loosening up at last. Hoorah! :-)

Hi,
Prior to becoming an instuctor I easily handled 6 a week with 4 wgts, 1 box.
I am not a full time instructor but rather do this as a part time thing of a night/morning. Now I teach 4 on one week, 5 the next and particpate in at least 2 a week. I also do weights, boxing and yoga.
I find that this load is a bit heavy ! For me too feel great... teaching 3-4 a week, and particpating in 2 works well. I obviously would not do this many RPM if I couldnt fit in my weights etc.
Honestly everyone is made differently for me I need one intense workout a day (with a day off a week) as well as wgts.. but once I start getting into two intense workouts a day I start to get heavy and tired.
Cheers
Kate
