The time has come to say goodbye to BODYVIVE®.
I've been with it since day one in the US. Was in the very first training.
The program is changing, which it needs to do. It's going in a direction that is just not where I want to be. More dance moves, more High / Low.
I signed on for what at the time was a program to target a particular crowd, sort of like what Silver Snickers does.
With the new focus and such, that is not the case any more.

I think that Susan is doing the right thing, finding a new voice and energy for this program, and no doubt, it will be a fine member of the LMI family of fitness classes.

So Mel, you can toss my forum moderator application form 18 months ago...

For those of you still teaching it (The drop out rate of instructors at our club, and other I know of, is high - 50%) -
Best of luck, have fun, and stand strong!

Wow! It seems such a shame to leave it after all the training and releases you've been through. Admittedly, I don't teach Vive, but it seems like quite a fun program. Why has it changed for you? Is it too technically difficult for it's target participants do you think?

You know, I went through something similar to you with Combat - I felt like it was getting ridiculous, and waaay too "over-the-top" technical to inspire participants. I saw so many instructors dropping out at this time too. But along came BC35 - and the joy of the program came back to me. This was followed by 36 - awesome release! I just had to stay in there for a little while longer.

I always feel a little sad when instructors give up a program :( Do you teach any other Les Mills?

hi in2insight

how has the program changed? i'm just starting to learn bodyvive having been a balance and attack instructor.

i've heard it's gone through changes, but no one has been specific about what the changes are.

i stopped being an attack instructor having been with it since the beginning, but by about release 40 it was going off in a direction that i didn't like (too easy and cheesy).

any insights would be appreciated :)

It has gone and become like, in my opinion, a mix of BODYJAM and BODYATTACK, with a bit of BUDYPUMP and BODYFLOW tossed in.
I teach, and adore, BODYFLOW, but the 80's aerobics and anything dance, is just not my thing. It was one thing when the dance track was just fun, but now it is super choreographed.
My fitness passion is Spinning, Pilates and Yoga, so you see that my view is a little skewed...

I have a year to come back to it should it change in a way I can relate. I think it's best to not do anything we are not 100% passionate about.

Adding on:
At some point, the decision was made to make the program more challenging, no longer geared to the Aqua ladies, but more well rounded.
So the cardio tracks got a bit more high energy, with MANY knee repeaters, and other moves were added to make it a "better" workout.
I knew the end was near for me when a move called "the pony" was added in.

Again, this program is young, and there are many out there who teach it and LOVE the new direction.

I see red lights against bodyvive at various Fitness First gyms. Perhaps the demographic is elsewhere

I tried it for a couple of months and HATED it, but it is doing well at a couple of FF clubs I go to (Carindale and Wynnum). Don't know why I hate it so much - maybe because the cardio is too 'dancy'. I never managed to get a sweat up in the cardio section, and was particularly uninspired by the 'interactive workout'.

whoops, I guess I haven't really been on the ball.........
I must have forgotten about that

It's a pity you have to give it up........although, be patient, maybe it'll make another turn around? I trained on Vive 4 and I was surprised at how difficult the chorrey was to learn, consider the program it is supposed to be. I haven't done it since, because the gyms in Adelaide didn't really take up on the program. I did part of vive 7 with Shirl at Euromad last weekend and I have to agree with you about the dancey bit. I really don't like dancing.......they're going to put some people off the program. I can understand they want to make it a "fun" program, but too many people are not going to like the dancing.
