Just like how the WHO got rid of small-pox, one day the world be rid of VPL. Until then we need to be vigilant, but remember its not contagious.

I went to an RPM class (shock horror), last night and it still hurts in all the wrong ways!

Can't bring myself to buy bike pants, cuz I never do it enough.

Mel totally relate! As a female.

When I first started RPM I said I would never wear bike pants ... but call it old age or love of pain I really dont know but now the question isnt will i wear them but which ones.

Maybe try a gel seat...As an instructor I now use both but I think that if you dont do it often a gel seat is worth it:)

mike, that's too much info! lol
Let's just say that after doing RPM I'm not sure if I can ever have kids again, haha.

On a serious note, I've always hated RPM, but I'm running out of options to get fit again, since I can't see myself be able to do combat/step/attack anytime soon (which are the only cardio classes I enjoy).

I dunno, maybe I should just buy myself some pants.......I'm getting desperate to lose the 20kg.

If you hate it, then why do it?

I've had several females discuss the same challenge as you, so in the end I started a thread to discuss it (after pre discussion with the female moderators). While there was some discussion about the significance of your option on personal grooming, the general conclusion was to use a small amount of personal lubricant or the like.

Men's bike shorts can be purchased quite cheaply, the problem with the men's ones is that the pad is a little narrower on the sit bones and the leg length may be incorrect. This is fine with some females and unsuitable for others.

Perhaps SPIN could make some female bike short suggestions

Mel

See I just dont get how you can hate spin - it is exhilerating, fun and just burns calories. Keeps me pumped and focussed! AHhhh the joys

But there are just so many different ways to loose weight... Personally I would be going for something I can maintain not a number.

I am a size 10 -12 and a solid chick but toned.. I find heavy weights to be a must for me abt 4 times a week and I then do 5-6 cardio (say 5 spins and 1 boxing) .. As I do teach and like to attend 2 other cycle classes sometimes I do 7-9 but I do understand that is over the top... and not necessary just love it...

Bike pants - even some netti cheap ones will assist in the beginning and if you want to get serious maybe go up a notch.. as the schammies are different, I have tried the lubricant didnt do anything for me... but saddle covers are also good.

PS I dont have children... lol

Probably should have mentioned I eat about 2200 cal a day ... but calories is determined by YOUR weight, activities and height etc.. which you would know and form the foundation of any excercise program with the emphasis on weight loss.

Hi Mel, we are going off topic, but what I find works is logging my diet. When I want to loose weight I log it in Calorie King. Even though I know my stuff, it helps with finding the right balance

Well, why am I considering RPM if I hate it? The reason I always hated it was because I hated being stationary. I needed to move around. The problem is now, due to injuries and physical problems I can't move around anyway, and every time I try I seem to hurt myself. After so long with no being able to do what I want to, I'm being forced to consider other options.

Sitting down and getting fatter and therefore getting more back problems is not one of the options I want to consider right now!

Hi Mel,

That is exactly how I feel in love with it. I use to run outdoors etc but I kept getting injuries... so once I did my ankle I was like there is NO way I cant excercise so I was sort of just doing my own thing at the gym and luckily enough for me...

I stepped into SPIN room and there was this hot, fun and just plain funny black dude teaching - I was hooked had not idea what I was doing but it was always fun.

Maybe try and find an instructor you really like as everyone teaches differenlty _ I havent suffered an injury for over 5 years now whilst I see others come and go from the gym with 2 months down on a injury from all these other 'excerises' which hay if you only want to ride 6 mths a year great but for me I want it all the time.

Cheers
Kate

In regards to weight loose, one of my participants has halved his weight, started at 184kg and is now down to 92kg 3 weeks ago.

Mel, I was definitely with you on RPM/Cycle. Sitting there being bored and not going anywhere sounded like torture. I had tried some classes and while I tolerated it, I didn't have an urge to go back.

Then one day a GFM asked me to teach Cycle. Well I had a couple of weeks to prepare so I went to some classes and I found an instructor that used music I liked. It made it semi-alright.
Then I just jumped into teaching it and it was a lot more bearable when I got to talk the whole time. I actually miss it now (I dropped it when that gym went PPCA-free)

As for the ouchies, I think it's something that you just get over. If I do a class out of the blue, it will hurt a whole lot, but if I am doing it regularly it just goes away.
I am sure that seats and pants and whatever help in someway, but I am cheap and don't like having shit to carry around so I was happy it just got better by itself.

Yeah you see ... again how are you stationary when everything we achieve comes to our mind first... I am so grateful I have an imagination and music rocks me.

Respecting that everyone likes different things.. I love RPM, I love music and thankfully there is not fastet way to get fit.

My advice find a good instructor .. as many teach but only few can!
