I am the target age, so I decided to go to a Vive class (being a real believer in "Don't knock it if you haven't tried it").

Luckily I forgot to go to the first couple of classes in my own club (luckily = because there was 0 attendance) and finally went to a club down the road (9 of us in the class, so that was fine).

Yes, it does raise your pulse and, yes, I suppose there is a certain glow at the end, but it's nothing like Pump or Combat or even Balance.

I suppose it is aimed at people who don't normally exercise or who are recovering from pregnancy, accident, etc. But you won't find the people who don't exercise in the club. I think you will only find the participants out in the street; they have got to be dragged into the club somehow.

I don't think I will be going back; I intend to stick to BodySweat.

How are all you instructors getting on? Are you getting good attendance? Perhaps it is just a UK / university town (lots of students) thing.

I am in a city gym and it's been slow to take off here. I am teaching 2 classes a week and it does seem to be the same members with a couple of new faces each time. Yes, they are usually 40 -50 + and not super fit but they are comfortable with the class and do their best to get a good workout. After the Heart Fitness section, most of them have worked up some kind of sweat. There's about 10 in my regular group but it's up and down. I could see Vive being really big in a more suburban centre. It's a shame it's been perceived as an 'oldies' class because I often get younger members in and they enjoy it - they know they can rev it up a bit more to get the workout they want. At the end of the day, it's a great program and the women that come along are being active and socialising and that's very healthy! Maybe it's not for everyone, but as you say Philip, 'don't knock it if you haven't tried it' - and who knows, you might just like it O:)

It's the "not super fit" that it is ideal for, young or old. The same crowd, I suppose, as did aqua when I first started exercising (a bit of exercise, a LOT of socialising !). At your end of the world, you seem to have attracted them into the gym, but here, in a university town, I think it is going to be difficult.

I went to BodyVive at a quarterly. We do not have the priveledge yet to have this at our gym. I would love to teach it! I enjoyed the class, and feel it would make that special group feel ever more special with this program.

I explained it to someone just from what I experienced. I enjoyed the walking in a circle (seemed like a nice idea - similiar to the running track in Attack) - I told them it was interactive with moving towards each other, and so on.

They asked when we were going to get it. I hope soon but from my past experience it's best to leave that realization to the management.

It's like you took the words out of my mouth.
It looks like there may be light at the end of the tunnel with release 6. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hello, in2insight.

Here in London the BodyVive classes are coming thick and fast, but I haven't spoken to the instructors to find out the level of attendance.

I did my first RPM class today. Now THAT gets your pulse up. And I somehow now have to find the energy to walk the dogs.

PS Your message is dated 17 Dec, but I have only just been notified that it is there.

Well, it's been awhile, and here is an update:
We (the club I teach at) did an about face.
Rather than teach to the low options and just cue advance ones, we reversed that.
Ever since, out class numbers have been climbing, and member feedback is positive.
We still cue and offer modifications, but for the most part, teach the higher options, especially in the cardio portion.

It would be great if there was another cardio track in the second half of class. After the cardio, it's really slows way down.

I also have to say that the moves are getting better, and that Susan Trainer is listening to the feedback.
Plus, her sense of humor is wonderful.

Cheers,
D.
