if your arm and wrist are sore are you sure your tech is right as your elbows should not go below the bench, if you want try doing the chest trach on the floor, also you have got to keep your nuckles up to straighten you wrist so the weights is not all on the wrist but transfered down the begger bones in the arm.

also do you suffer the same thing in the tricep track or when you do press ups

my arms dont go below the bench i know that anyway but the same arm that hurts clicks when i do dead rows my mate reakons its tendonitus or however its spelt, as for the wrists i do have my knuckles to the ceiling but i dont think i do as much as i shud be beacuse i find it hard. Heres my weights sice i went up:

squats 25kg
chest 15kg
back 15kg
lunge (no bar!)
triceps 12kg
bicep 10kg
shoulders 10kg
One look could kill, my pain your thrills

Did BP62 this morning. It seemed easier, except shoulders.

I haven't done BP in 3 months (forced absence, I'd never give up voluntarily!), so I suspect my max weights will be about half what they were. And the first class will HURT the next day! I have done some resistance training in the mean time, but we all know there's nothing like pump to really make it impossible to sit down the next day ;)

Unless its an injury that kept you away, it shouldn't be that bad. Perhaps go for 75% of your previous weights. It's up to you.

No injury, just circumstance. Going to keep my first class relatively light, somewhere maybe 60-70% of my previous, and see how it goes. I need to be able to walk the next day! But I do want to get back up to full steam asap, because I know that I can lift more than I was even at my best. No pain no gain!

Probaby as the class progresses you'll refine your decision. Besides they build them tough in your neck of the woods don't they!

After a couple of classes, I'm not as sore as I thought I would be! Which is very, very nice. My weights are still pretty pathetic, but I'm hoping I can build them up pretty quickly. At the moment I have on the bar in total:

Warmup: 7.5kg
Squats: 10kg (this is going up lots next time! 15kg hopefully)
Chest: 7.5kg
Back: 10kg
Triceps: 7.5kg on the bar, 3kg hand weights
Biceps: 7.5kg
Lunges: no weight, bad knees at the moment
Shoulders: 3kg handweights.

Must admit that I never really get hung up on how much I'm lifting. I'm more concerned with how I'm executing the moves so my posture is correct.

I've a couple of guys in the class that lift slightly more than myself but you can see them struggling when fatigue kicks in. I've never understood the whole male ego thing when it comes to weight training....the while attitude of must lift more (even if the posture and timing is pants)...its pathetic really!!
Combat cueing "Right!! I don't want to see any of that Jackie Chan bollocks.....I wanna see lots of windmilling arms and some head butts!!"

"Eagles may soar high but weasels don't get caught in jet engines!!"

When teaching always remember...."No-one cares how much you know........they just want to know how much you care"

Agree 100% that you shouldn't base your weights on someone else, your their to improve yourself not to compete. Personally I don't see pump as weight training, more as a cardio exercise using light weights and as you get fitter, you increase the intenstity by increasing the weight.

it depends, when teaching for the girls I find you often need to encourage them to lift more.........the guys generally you need to coach to back off.

This isn't a hard and fast rule though.

BP 61 is reaching it's end. So i guess my weights for 61 will not improve.
Right now i use (total on bar)
warm up: 12 kg
Squats: 40 kg (cannot add more on the bar, we have only one set of 10 kg discs at our gym, which I use)
Chest: 20 kg
Back: 22 kg
Triceps: 5 kg disc for kick back, 15 - 20 kg on bar (depending on how strong I feel)
Biceps: 12 - 15 kg
Lunges: 25 kg (they hurt anyway. My instructor told me he once saw a LM instructor do lunges with 35, so that's my goal) ;) )
Shoulders: 5 kg disc in each hand for start, change to 2,5 kg discs about half way.
Abs: 10 kg disc
Quod me nutrit, me destruit.

35 is a good goal.

In 2004 when I first saw a guy do 25kg + bar, I thought "wow, I didn't know you could lunge that much in pump" and in 2005 when I fist saw a guy lunge 35kg + bar, I thought "wow, I didn't know you could lunge that much in pump". 2004 thru to 2006 I went from 15kg to 37.5kg + bar and then at the end of 2006 I saw a female instuctor lunge 35kg + bar and I though "wow, I didn't know a female could lunge that much in pump", she did go red in the face. This year I've seen another female lunge 35kg + bar and I'm lunging 40kg + bar. I think I'll end up at 45kg + bar as per that bloke in Scotland, but I won't be putting my weight up unless I satified that my ROM is good.

just thought i would update my max meights as well seeing as a new release is here:

squats 50kg just got upto this and managed to complete a track got another instructor doing 61kg (mental)
chest 40kg doing 35kg average now but thinking of uping it to 37kg
back 35kg done this a couple of times but to be honest only attempt it if being challenged ie at quarterlies or by another instructor usually use 25kg
triceps 20kg use 15 on average but going to up it for new one
biceps 17.5kg have attempted 20kg but wow its hard
lunges 45kg have attemtped 50kg got one side done but felt i could not get up afer seconf round so chickened but its in my sights
shoulders 25kg 20kg on average really dissapointed no bar work again in pump 62

have to admit its getting harder to increase weights now but shall never give up as long as my tech stays good.

Mikefish, how do the bars go with the instructor thats doing 61kg? Are the bars bending? BTW, are the weights including the bar or excluding the bar? I've kinda committed myself to a max of 50kg due to the bar limit.

what we have done is to take a longer heavier bar we also have used some metal plates. alsp i you use the metal clips instead of the chunky les mills ones you can squeeze a little more weight on, have to admit cant remember seeing the bars bending

Hey Mike,

Yeh, that's what I need is the solid bars. Sounds like your using the 7kg bars, that Mel mentioned somewhere else.

I matched your lunges this week at 45kg + bar (it was a killer), so there's a crazy lunger by the name of Mike on both sides of the planet.

Cheers,

Mike.
