Ooh, I didn't realise Aussie workshops had started. I am so glad they weren't here today though - it was our hottest day ever! Seriously.

Oh no Special! I heard it's been horrific! How have you been feeling in the heat?

We have our workshops in what is basically a tin shed (indoor basketball courts  ). So they bring in huge fans, which just rotate the hot air around. When the floor gets a bit of sweat on it, it's deadly. I sat out the running track because people were starting to slip

That's what Adelaide has been getting for the past year and a bit. The basketball courts are just wonderful for the classes  The fans they bring in just don't cut it, the floor gets slippery with sweat and its not supportive at all, as you say Placebo. Always does my calves in for the next few days.

Luckily it was only one hot day. But 47 is really hot. No-one went outside all day - I don't think I've seen the streets that empty before. The bushfires were bad though. :(

Melbourne workshops have tried lots of venues in the last few years - and basketball courts suck.
Now I have the honour of working for a gym that has had to relocate all their morning classes to a basketball court.

Agility track though felt like a bit of a mess with two lots of different chorey each side. Roomful of instructors had a little difficulty with it, so it could see participants stopping because they don't know what they're supposed to be doing, or doing the same thing as the opposing side.

In my opinion that is just plain stupidity, trying to be "creative" in a way that screws everything up. I think everyone agrees that there is no point in putting other group to do different excercise than other group. In the end everyone will anyway do the same excercise, so why not do it on same time.

I really cannot understand how choreographers could have come to the conclusion to put this kind of chorry in attack. It takes only 2 questions to see that it makes no sense:
1. Is this making things more difficult to participants? -> YES
2. What are the benefits? -> NONE

I have always been against changing choreography or format, but this time I might do the change and teach the same chorry to both groups at the same time. I'll just have to see myself first how it goes. And of course we need to agree with other attack instructors in our gym how to teach this, so everyone would do it similar way.

TP - I agree with you. I honestly felt that they could have done the usual split room, then have both sides do the same chorey - only competing with each other in a fun way. My mentor who has taught ATTACK for 10yrs didn't think this track was going to be a problem for her or her participants, so I'm thinking that perhaps it's just me that thinks it's going to be a mess :-k I would love to hear others HONEST opinion.

My opinion on it is, I'll teach it for 3wks, if it doesn't work, then I mix it out. Plus, there's always the "blah" part of Les Mills to leave feedback.

When Lisa O was in the trial and error phase of preparing this release, at one stage she had us split into 4 corners with all 4 groups doing something different - imagine what chaos that was! I think the 2 sides works ok, it's something a bit different from the usual agility track, and I don't think I've ever been confused about what I was supposed to be doing. Not my fave agility track ever, love the song though!

To me it just sounds absurd that participants are doing different choreography than instructor.

In the past, we've had running tracks that do something similar to this, right? I haven't seen 64 yet, but from your descriptions, it sounds a lot like the running tracks that split participants into four corners and have opposing corners doing different choreography. As a participant, I haven't found that particularly confusing, but, like I said, I haven't seen this new agility track. I'm sure you all remember the running tracks I'm talking about - is this agility track similar?

We had this before in 51 running track where two groups were doing different choreo. There were always a few confused participants.

So this agility track *is* similar to the running track in 51? That makes me happier. I'm probably training on 64, so it's nice to have some idea about it ahead of time. I absolutely LOVE "I Need a Hero"! I used to watch my mom in the early 80s doing group aerobics to it! :-D

never had an problems here with the 51 running track, as long as you set up clearly which group was going what. Sounds like this agility track is going to be interesting!

I really enjoyed that running track from 51 (my training release) and never had big problems. Occasionally people got confused, but if that is enough to make a track bad I would have to stop teaching altogether. There is always some one who can get confused my anything.

I'll wait till I have seen this one to make a judgement. I hope the music is decent. I haven't been loving the agility track music recently.

Me too. Last decent agility was in 59.

This sounds just like a normal class in a lot of gyms.... :)

Actually, am feeling a whole lot better about it as I've viewed the DVD. First launch this Saturday for Attack, so I'll see how it goes. Hopefully everyone 'gets it' the first time.

Oh dear, this agility will be a disaster on wooden floor! Pushups on the knees are out of the question as are on your toes, because of the sweaty hands. [-(

We have wooden floors at one gym, and even me as a sweaty person didn't have a problem on my hands. I only notice a problem if we are doing push-ups for ages. We are not down for that long in the new Attack are we?

Well, I work hard and sweat a lot, so walking pushups without a towel (at least one in the middle) present a risk for me. I could move forward a little every pushup, but then there'll be sweat everywhere and people would slip at the next bootcamp move.

I like the song and idea, though, but pushups should be banned from it. Or... there should be a special spot for pushups only. :-k

gepl - Yeah, walking push-ups were NOT good at the workshop - wooden floor. Everyone was slipping from one side to the other - yuck

We released Attack this morning in a gym with carpet. Everyone did really well, but it does need a great set-up for everyone to get on the same page. The first time is always difficult, but I think most participants will be fine after that. Second launch is Tuesday night at a gym with huge numbers and wooden floors. So that is the real test!

hmm reading all these posts makes me wonder how this going to work on the famed basketball floor this coming Sunday! Ah well, I'm sure Dean will find a way to make it amusing for us all. At least all reports on the music have been positive, guess we'll see! *g*
