The latest news to be hitting the fitness industry in Australia is the change in the royalties that must be paid to the PPCA for the use of broadcasting music. The decision by the Copyright Tribunal has been a staggering blow to the fitness industry, and we expect most gyms are not going to be able to afford these increases from 96.8c per class and capped at $2,648, increasing to $15 per class. 

For a small gym which has say, 50 classes (I just counted two averages gyms that have 47 and 82 classes) this is an increase from $2,613.60 to $40,500 per year. For a gym with 82 classes this is an increase from $2,648 to $66,420. The PPCA have definately overestimated the industry if they think that gyms across Australia can afford this!

So what we are seeing, even though a date has not yet been set, gym immediately going PPCA free. So we at groupfitness.org would like to track which gyms are going PPCA free music.
